There are two schools of thought regarding Kelowna moving companies moving dressers. One school thinks it’s okay to leave clothing in dressers and taping the drawers closed for putting them on the truck. The other school prefers removing drawers from all dressers. Both schools of thought are right, but they depend on certain conditions.

Condition Of Dressers

With solid wood products like oak or cherry dressers, the drawers can remain in the dressers. They’re not likely to come apart during
transport for local moves or long distance moves. In the interest of protecting the backs of the movers, pack nothing heavier than
clothing and pillows in the drawers.

Although some dressers have a wood facade, the ply board they cover is flimsy. If this is the case with your dressers, then drawer removal becomes necessary so the whole doesn’t fall apart. Keep the clothing in the drawers, but shrink wrap the drawers so nothing
comes out during transport.

A good rule of thumb in moving dressers is if the homeowner can move the dresser complete with drawers and contents himself, then the Kelowna moving companies won’t have trouble carrying it. If the dresser is wobbly, it won’t be easy to carry it around corners, down stairs, or loading it on a truck. Make sure the dresser is stable and tell the moving personnel if it isn’t. They’ll have the correct equipment to take care of it either way.

Weight Of The Dresser

You know your furniture best. You know if it’s heavy or if it can be moved easily. Your movers need to know what pieces are the weightiest before you start packing the first box. They tend to move heavier items first and then place everything else around them. Remove the drawers if the dresser is heavy to make transport easier on the moving personnel.

Things Not To Put In Drawers

Lots of people tuck last minute things into dresser drawers whether they’re removed or not. The things they tuck such as books, DVDs, the odd baseball, or the winter boots the kids forgot to pack tend to make the drawers heavy. If there’s no shrink wrap for wrapping the drawers, the items will fall out and break. Keep an extra box for packing these last minute items.

Drawer Security

Families undertaking local moves or long distance moves feel better if their furnishings are secured before transport. To that end, they wrap many pieces of furniture including highboys, low boys, china cabinets, desks with drawers, and dressers or chests of drawers.

Most do this with clear plastic wrap resembling Saran wrap. This comes on something like a paper towel roll. The mover or the family member will walk around the furniture piece, wrapping it tightly in the shrink wrap. Now it’s ready for transport.

If the drawers have items in them, and if the drawers are removed from the dresser, then most families wrap the drawers, too. This protects both the wood and the items inside the drawers from damage.

Drawers With Cables

Some dressers are equipped with drawers along a slide with cables to prevent opening too many drawers. This stops the whole dresser tipping over. In a case like this, moving companies will tell the homeowner to empty the drawers. Since removing drawers will be impossible, the whole bureau will be shrink wrapped and put on the truck./p>

However, if the contents and the weight of the dresser is light enough, some moving companies will tell homeowners to leave the contents in the drawers. The dresser will be shrink wrapped and loaded on the truck.
